covets a Nintendo DS Lite!

so what has happened since then. well, Thursday was relatively uneventful, since i’ve already presented my photo stills during last week’s tutorial, so it was quite relaxed for me, except for the Info Lit test which turned out to be kind of tricky. but we did group discussion, no tutorial assignment, which is lucky. (:

had dinner with Aur on Thursday night. went to that Japanese/Korean food bistro at Bugis we always go to. i miss gyoza! then we went for Rochor tauhuay! we talked about travel plans, and then later at night with Mint online. but it looks like finding common time is our major obstacle, much less the issue of weather. summer seems to be a bad season for traveling.

Good Friday was spent watching more CSI in the morning, and then furniture-shopping at Ikea! Swedish meatballs and chicken wings! being a public holiday, it was horribly packed. and the cafeteria was full of selfish people who refused to budge from their seats after their meal because drinks were refillable so technically, they could sit there all day. and it was lunch time, yo.

i saw some pretty bed frames, including this black cot-like frame. ’sofa by day, bed by night.’ i also formulated a pretty decent idea about how to rearrange my room once we finally get down to renovation. we’ve been talking about it for some time now, but because of scheduling, we haven’t fixed a real date to it. if i don’t get a platform done in my room, i’d probably go with the layout i sort of have in mind. i actually wanted my room to be kind of minimalistic, zen-like. but it’s probably not so practical while i’m still studying and have all kinds of paraphernalia around. otherwise, i’d keep everything close to the ground, like have a low coffee table and some laid back couches rather than work clutter. neat. (:

we spent half the time furniture-shopping for ourselves, and then the rest of the time trying to find a nice gift for the housewarming party we were going for in the evening. we ended up, after much indecision, to get this really cute standing lamp with two bulbs. i saw tons of really cool gift ideas too, including adorable table lamps, with colorful shades!

housewarming turned out okay but kind of boring since we didn’t really know anyone. it’s really Dad’s gathering with his friends. Kazzie and i spent the time battling it out on PSP Metal Slug 3! (: but the house itself was pretty amazing. landed property, and the best part – their son (who’s around my age and leaving for France for the next couple of years to receive pilot training) lives in the attic with a small skylight. the attic is quite a sprawling space! and they have a beautiful black dog named Magic.

Saturday afternoon was spent doing the cut-throat Info Lit project with Mad. we met at City Hall, but Starbucks was jammed, so we went to Macs at Funan. visited my grandparents last night, and also this afternoon. just got back. food food food! my grandmother made really delicious fried wantons with prawns and meat stuffing; and fried beehoon. which makes me recollect my conversation with Aur on Thursday about missing her cooking.

i haven’t Tumbled in a few days. haha, but it’s overwhelming to keep up some times. but anyway, my policy is really to drop by and check out good stuff occasionally. so no pressure. that’s why i left LiveJournal, because the obligation to catch up with friends and communities’ postings got a bit too much. still, Tumbling seems like a pretty good way to start photo-blogging! like, an interesting photo everyday of your life, kind of thing.

a week or so back, Mint insisted that this LiveJournal user had the perfect life in South Pasedena, California. and i was dubious, because high school isn’t supposed to be all sparkle and nice. but reading her photo-blog posts (she takes some great pictures), i am almost convinced. i wonder if Mint is still stalking that blog. xD

anyway, her photos are taken (if i remember right) using a point-and-shoot digital camera and a SLR (which apparently just died a few days back). … makes you super tempted to pick up photography to chronicle your life and the small beautiful things like she does. problem: SLRs aren’t exactly cheap. so i guess it makes more sense to make do with what i have. my parents recently bought a new Canon Ixus860, which apparently has pretty good reviews. it’s currently with my Mom on her Egyptian vacation though. (:

more gadget love! a couple of weeks back, i was addicted to Neatorama for a couple of nights. and i checked out YouTube videos of people playing the Super Mario theme song with different instruments. it’s completely entertaining to see how many people have challenged that song with wacky methods – playing the piano blindfolded, beat-boxing flute, orchestra arrangement, 11-string base guitar, etc.

Super Mario, i miss playing that game. which planted the seed of desire to get a Nintendo DS Lite! i’d love one in Metallic Rose, or Crimson/Black, and to a less extent Glossy Silver. … i have some fantastic Super Mario background sounds on my cellphone which i use as ring-tones some times too. speaking of ring-tones, i love that Stephen Chow movie dialogue which Nates blue-toothed to me a while back! classic! if i got time, i’d love to dig up more from Chinese forums or whatever.

randomly, interesting news article about Apple considering free access to iTunes. will it work?

lately, i’ve returned slowly back to listening to Japanese music. most of them are at least a year old, since i thought i’ve departed the fandom through and through. i never really bothered to follow new releases any more, and pretty much only listened to classic, sometimes old-school stuff. bands like LUNA SEA are always gold. … then i realized how much i’ve been missing out, or haven’t even paid attention to. lol, now i regret spring cleaning out my huge music library back then. it must have been tons of visual-kei and other rock sub-genres i trashed without really listening to. right now: ART-SCHOOL and STRAIGHTENER. loved them then, love them still. (: i should really Fire-Wire new stuff to my MacBook music library.

… besides, English music has more or less lost its appeal for me at the moment, since i can’t get over the fact that music never stops getting pegged with a sort of social connotation. everyone gets into it, because everyone else is. to me, indie rock and whatnot, represents the new overrated right now. of course, Japanese rock faces/faced the same thing. back when i was still listening, people got into it just because it makes them seem different, and less mainstream. good music is just good music. i like songs and sounds. listening to great bands is just a part of it.

i saw this really cute blue striped bag from C&K yesterday, and this straw bag with maroon handles. <3 … i want to get colorful boxers from Litmus! (: and arrgghh, i want to get Threadless t-shirts on sale (extended until Wednesday!).

TODAY’S MAJOR HAPPENING: haha, i got a call from Wowie ‘neki from Cayman Islands!! joy! (: zomg, it was a total surprise. … truth is, i’d been receiving this unknown number for a couple of days now before the weekend started. and i hate picking up unknown numbers. plus, this one looked suspicious with its +0001 … code. so i was all wary until my Dad told me to just pick up, and so i did! today, when my phone rang in my Dad’s car on our way to brunch! it was fantastic to hear from her and that island sounds amazing. sign me up for a cruise journey around the Caribbean! since she’s going to be there 4-7 years, hopefully i just might get a chance to visit that place while she’s still working there as an architect. maybe even post-graduation. yay, but we’re going to Skype from now because phone call rates are expensive. (: so glad i took my Dad’s advice.
