i do so need to cut my nails
arrr! they only showed half of a 2-hour episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition today on terebi.
god, i hate it when they do that and leave things hanging.
i’m getting started on Jane Feather’s ‘V’ series.
the titles of the books in this series are all single words beginning with, obviously, the letter ‘v’ e.g. Venus, Vixen, Vice, Virtue …
i haven’t quite figured out just how many books are there. 8, according to Wikipedia, it appears. o_O
yesterday afternoon was spent in lazy exploration with Mint and Aur.
first at the Cosfest at Downtown East. travelling to Pasir Ris turned out to be less tedious with iPods and someone for company.
it was quite interesting, since i’ve never actually been to a local cosplay event.
there was a number of them, but the whole thing turned out to be much more scaled down than i thought.
the booths weren’t very interesting. and it’s supposed to be the cosplay event every year in Singapore? that doesn’t bode well.
then again, today should be the real highlight of this weekend event.
the finals of the cosplay competition and all, i expect there’d be more people in their full cosplaying garb. xD
so what i observed there are the usual cliches.
like people cosplaying half-heartedly.
playing “dress up”, in Mint’s words, to get into the spirit of things rather than sticking close to character down to every minute detail.
most local cosplayers are not very adventurous though, and their poses and the settings they choose rather mundane.
saw several visual / gothic lolita cosplayers too. but somehow there’s always some slip-up to the complete outfit e.g. sneakers instead of scary platform heels or something. xD
i saw some lonely disformed Tenipuri cosplayers, but other than that …
it’s interesting how there weren’t that many typical characters like from Bleach, Death Note and other more notable major animes.
i guess anime fans move on when it comes to new series, fandoms and all.
oh, irony, how well i know, with the demise of the Slam Dunk fandom.
Ben & Jerry’s ice cream saved the day!
horrible heat, though it began to drizzle a bit.
mint with chocolate chunks tastes pretty awesome.
but somehow i suspect i’m better off sticking to my usual fruit sorbets.
we ended up at Chinatown; not very crowded on a Saturday late afternoon.
wandered around shops a bit and took photos at Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple (which i must upload soon).
we also stopped by Tong Heng, this Chinese traditional bakery on the way and picked up biscuits and egg tarts.
i think that’s the one Wei Ming got the egg tarts from for us during the old Morris days.
i love their coconut egg tarts!! ♥
and then on to Maxwell food center.
ahhh! hawker fare. oyster omelette, char kway teow, tauhuay and what not. xDDD
bought colored shawls at 3 for $10 on the way back.
not exactly a steal, when it comes to comparing prices with Vietnam or Thailand, but.
i got magenta, dark purple and a light yellow. much love.
i must go back to Chinatown someday to explore and take photos. yay.
another high point for today! Dad’s coming back on schedule.
and he managed to get on an earlierr flight so he’s landing around 5pm later. bounces.
Kazzie and i wanted to go meet him at the airport. :3
